Roach War – What Is It Good For?
Microscopic Melodrama Marches Into Production
Schmitt Indianapolis Comic

During of the worst of the new year’s harsh quasi-blizzard weather I’ve been working on an animated short for Roaches. This first pilot episode is titled “If War Were Declared”. It’s set in a WWI era world in the roach city of Kor.

Schmitt Indianapolis Comic

“If War Were Declared” stars Canadian actor Julian Mulock as the Grand Roach. Assistant Director and Sound Engineer Tim Thomson. Written, designed and directed by me, Paul Schmitt.

I’m looking for 2D Character Animators to help finish this short. Send me an email if you’re interesting in volunteering your time to help with this indie animation.

Roach Wrestling Federation Title Match
The Crimson Millipede Versus The Royale Rumbler
Schmitt Roaches Webcomic
THE KING DOME, KOR – This Inter-Continental title match held Saturday afternoon and was set for one fall with winner take all. The undefeated myriapod, The Crimson Millipede, faced off against the Roach Wrestling Federation Inter-Continental Champion – The Royale Rumbler.

The hulking, red beast looked very formidable – coming into the fight with a 8-0 record. It truly seemed like the Millipede was going to beat whoever stood in it’s way into a green puddle of goo.

Yet, using his lightning speed and acrobatic agility, The Royal Rumbler descended from the roof of the King Dome and planted a steel chair into the maw of the hideous creature!

Disco Versus Rock

Rock ‘n Roll Roach Versus Disco Roach!
Why 1’s And 2’s Can’t Deal With 3’s And 4’s
Roaches by Paul Schmitt
As soon as the turntables and the Cold Play hits your favorite rock ‘n roll club – duck for cover. Things are about to take a sudden left turn.

Bars and clubs grow to a point where they book great regional and national acts that draw quality crowds. Alt-rock/punk/rock-a-billy road warriors drive in from all over the country to rock the house. A club at it’s peak is something to experience.

Then, all of the sudden, that stops. The next thing you know: one guy is spinning records, terrible dance pop records that pose the existential question: “Do you believe in life after love?” On Friday and Saturday night. At the same club. The one that had all the good rock bands for years…

So, what happened to your rock club? Instead of talking with a wide range of people from all over the country you end up with a identical crowd of the drunk Cher lovin’, Madonna boogeyin’ yuppie tool bags from the “right” side of town packed in 300 deep. 220 of them have their phones out at all times like Star Trek tricorders being used to carefully navigate a class M planet.

Your favorite rock club is now a very large phone booth (remember them?) that is playing bland Muzak. Just like that.

Does Messianic Lore Exist In All Species?
How He Was Squashed For Your Sins And Why
Roaches by Paul Schmitt

Do roaches have their own religion? By being close contact with humans for thousands of years, as witnesses to human history and our behavior, have they absorbed some of our legends and created their version of events that center around their own species?

That depends. Have you ever watched a bee as it assesses you? They hover and observe, not because they are unintelligent, but because they are making an educated guess about you. Can they same me said of cockroaches?

Roaches Death Comic Page

This new page concerns dead roaches and why they always end up belly up. Why is that? Does gravity effects cockroaches differently than it does people?

Please subscribe to this comic for more pages and looks ahead at the cartoon. As long as you kind folks are viewing and subscribing – I will be keep updating this blog with preview pages for the next edition of the Roaches title and more.

Upcoming Indie Animation Unveiled
Film Creator: “We’ve tripled the dimensions… against all odds!”
Grand Roach model by Paul Schmitt
Lighting, textures, mapping and pose rigging can go a lo-o-o-ng way.

Things are going well for the Roaches animation production. There are many more tools in the 3d software package that I’m using now than there were just a few years ago. For example, a more well-rounded slider based animation tool set, easier to pre-program Graph Editor and in-scene audio w/wavelength preview for example. I’m also finding that the render engine is much stronger and much more capable of complexity than ever. Good stuff.

As far as this technology has come – it’s still not perfect.

Currently, I’m working out some unique customizations to streamline the animation process with Character Animator Mr. Oliver Simonnet. His portfolio can be found at Oliver Simonnet 3D. Take some time to look at his reel! As you are about to learn – he is very good at what he does.

Are you a 3d Animator with a strong character animation and texture mapping reel? We are always looking for more help. Lip synch animators and architectural modelers especially. Send your demo reels to the Project Coordinator by email.

Pride/Truth

Pride

Popular music, outside of the era it is created in, sounds terrible. Examples include: Bee Gees, Backstreet Boys, disco and techno to name a few.

Truthiness

Truthishly? We should just listen to whatever any one in a position of power and accept what they say without question.
